With the busy lives that we all lead, all too often, we may fall short with our intake of antioxidants coming from fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants help to fight free radical damage. Free radicals are formed when our body breaks down and it is these free radicals that have been linked to cancer, heart disease, etc. Here is an easy concoction that will provide your body with a great antioxidant blast.
These will provide the body with a good amount of fiber that can be beneficial in controlling LDL (bad cholesterol) levels as well as helping to promote good gastrointestinal health. Also, collard greens are rich in vitamin A, C and K. In addition, they are also rich in vitamin B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid) and B6 (pyridoxine).
These are rich in beta-carotene which is converted to vitamin A in the liver. Beta-carotene has been found to help protect against one of the leading causes of vision loss and blindness, macular degeneration. In addition, carrots also provide vitamin B1, B2, B6, vitamin K and fiber.
Apples will provide the body with vitamins A, C, E, K, B1, B2 and B6. These can help to lower LDL cholesterol levels and the fiber in apples can help to promote good GI health. Apples can also help to boost your immune system.
Blueberries contain B complex vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin C, copper, selenium and zinc. These also provide an additional antioxidant, Anthocyanin, which is a pigment that is responsible for the blue color. Blueberries have also been found to help promote good ocular health, heart health, brain health, GI health and urinary tract health.
These contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C. As with other antioxidant-rich foods, strawberries help to promote good ocular health, heart health, brain health and GI health.
Blend the following together:
1-2 cups collard greens
1-2 whole carrots
¼ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
4 strawberries (fresh or frozen)
6-12 ounces of water
Once blended together in a high-powered blender, you will have a great antioxidant blast smoothie. Consume this 1-2 times per day. You will feel great just knowing you are providing your body with an amazingly healthy and antioxidant-rich beverage.
